Interested in becoming a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator? You’ve come to the right place! Anyone can become a telecommunicator, whether you are fresh out of high school or college, looking for a career change, just became a grandma, or anywhere in-between! But how does one become a 9-1-1 telecommunicator? Read on for a quick guide on the steps you can take.
Firstly, you need to sign-up for the Basic Telecommunication Licensing Course. This course is your key to learning the ins-and-outs of being a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator and to learning what you need to pass the test to get your certificate. This course is only offered in-person and will require you to come to class from 8:30am to 5:30pm every day for two weeks at our main WCTCOG office in Abilene, TX. If finding transportation to our offices or the time commitment is an issue, you may want to hold off on becoming a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator for the time being or make adjustments to your schedule to make completing the class doable for you. If you are already a member or a current WCTCOG Region 9-1-1 Telecommunicator needing to renew your licensing, the class is free! However, if you are a non-member or not a WCTCOG Region 9-1-1 Telecommunicator, then the course will cost $400 with an additional $20 testing fee.
